About Girlz Rock

Empowering girls and young women through mentorship, leadership development, and community support.

Who We Are

Girlz Rock is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women through mentorship, education, and leadership development. We provide safe, supportive spaces where participants are encouraged to grow in confidence, develop essential life skills, and discover their voice.

Our programs are designed to meet girls where they are—academically, emotionally, and socially—while fostering resilience, accountability, and positive self-identity.

Why Girlz Rock

Many girls face challenges that can impact their self-esteem, academic success, and overall well-being. Without access to consistent mentorship and positive role models, these challenges can follow them into adulthood.

Girlz Rock was created to interrupt that cycle by offering guidance, encouragement, and opportunities for growth—so girls are not only supported, but empowered to thrive.

Denita Washington, the visionary for Girlz Rock, started a Girlz rock group in 2010 within the East Allen County school district. Her desire to expand beyond one school led her to partner with the Executive Director of the Renaissance pointe YMCA, Tabitha Ervin, March 17, 2012. That was the birth of  Girlz Rock with in the community.

Over 150 middle and high school female students participated in fellowship, food, a fashion show and workshops on enhancing their personal best.

The goal was to empower girls to believe that they can achieve no matter what obstacles in life they face!

For ten years, we have been mentoring adolescent girls to reach their full potential. We help them to positively grow within their community.
